Figure Drawings 1
So here is a compilation of today's drawings. Some figure work. It's been awhile since I've drawn standing up and using my whole arm to draw, so I'm rusty at the moment as you can tell in the beginning. Normally I do medium sized drawings and I rest my arm on the paper, pivoting on my elbow, but since I'm working differently here, it'll take some getting used to. I also recently bought Henry Yan's book on figure drawing and I'm taking his approach in terms of practice to just fill up the page as much as I can. Doing it this way elevates some stress about trying to make a perfect drawing and it tells you that this is just practice, and so far is working pretty well. As the drawings progressed I became looser and drawing became easier.

Winter Challenge
So last summer I attempted to keep myself busy and set goals for myself to keep my doing art. Unfortunately I set them a little too high and I got burnt out by the 4th week. So this time, to try and prevent this, I will set a more general goals, but geared towards specific areas. These areas will include figure drawing/rendering, illustrations, and painting studies. I won't set a specific number to reach every week as that was my downfall before, so this time I'm just going to do as many as I can, and update as soon as the piece is done. Hopefully this looser work routine will keep me motivated and not feeling burnt out.
2nd Semester DONE!
So the second semester is done and I can post a few things I've done during school. Some illustrations done for Composition 2, cast drawing, some anatomy studies, and a comic book based on Winsor Mcay's Little Nemo, done for visual narrative. If you want to view the comic pages more closely, just right click on it > open image in new tab or window and you can zoom in to see the detail and dialogue.

Summer Challenge - Week 4
So I think this'll be the last week I do these kinds of drawings. As helpful as these are, they are starting to become tedious, so I gotta switch them up and something else entirely.

Summer Challenge - Week 3
Some more paintings and master copy paintings. I tried duplicating the look from Simon Goinard and Richard Schmid. Talk about difficult. But I learned a lot about variety in marks and composition. Also being loose with the initial layout of a painting was something I had always had trouble with. But after doing those master copy paintings, I don't think that is going to be a problem anymore. They aren't 100% exact, but they aren't really meant to be. Especially Simon Goinard's work. Unless I had the exact same brushes he had, there is no way I could completely duplicate what he made. So I just opted to get as close as possible and make custom brushes as I needed them. Maybe I'll try a different painting style next week.

Summer Challenge - Week 2
Okay so there were some hits and misses this week. Probably the most notable thing is no skeletons. I honestly think I burned myself out that first week. But on a happier note, I've discovered some things about painting in Photoshop with some custom brushes that I've made to try and mimic traditional media. I know there are other programs like Painter and ArtRage that are better for that kind of thing, but Photoshop is just much faster for me, and I already know it pretty well. I think it'll be obvious where the jump in painting occurred. I also managed to accidentally make a brush that mimics ink when used in the right way. :D
I've also discovered another artist named Simon Goinard. His work really caught my eye and got me interested in trying to mimic the brush strokes in Photoshop. I suspect next week I'm going to be experimenting even more and painting more.
